Sorry. No Pink Floyd in the collection.

There are famous bands that is inquestonable the influence in rock music, like Stones, Beatles, Cream, The faces, etc. Others are more recent giants like Queen or U2, but Pink Floyd is one of the groups, that personally, i don´t like and there's not one single album in my more than 500 originals. Music is to slow for me, the albums far to experimental and if the musicians are great, specially David and Roger, all the result is far away from my personal taste. But what the band have done for rock music is important, and that´s the reason of this lines.

Major influence for generations, if i had born in this era, probably my influences were Beatles, Stones, Doors and Tull (then Zeplin and Black Sabath). Bands like Floyd, Genesis or Yes, are not of my kind.

Another "brick in the wall" is that i´m not a particular fan of "the Roger Waters"era (band lovers have a total diferent opinion...lol), what is funny because i prefer him in the intervews than the Gilmour comments, that seams from a "betrayed wife".

Live in Pompeei its a concert in a town destroyed by a vulcano. It´s interesting, of coure it is, but only by the concept. If my high school group play first were 75 000 Lisbon habitants lost their lifes in 1755 catastrophe, the concept will be exacly the same. Good for Pink Floyd that were the first ones to remember.

After Waters, the music was different, but was the end? Hell, i'm not a fan of "The Wall" so the band new orientation was normal for who like's  music. Worst? Less interestin, i prefer. But when Roger live's i was 12 years old, and music was much diferent also in Rock, but especially in hard Rock and Heavy Metal. Probaly if i had a diferent age, the psicadelic era of Floyd were much more interesting than in the 80's staff.

But in this time, hard rock, metal and in first years of the 90's with grunge, my choise was not this band. Classic Rock there had again other options and is true that Floyd was in a very melodic rock with exelent albuns and live performances, but were to boring for a young adult. After that, the member of the band made is own carriers and the interest was less for everybody.

Today, and after one or another original, is a certain that David and Roger will not reunite, so Pink Floyd is "dead". What is a nightmare for the true fans for the two most reconize musicians of the band is another step in their solo carriers. Live in Pompei by Gylmore was full and Waters play for 300 000 in the american continent. So, change for what?

Even so, any concert with music from Floyd times it's a party. In Portugal (May 2018), mobilization is rising, and certain will be a full house. More ridiculous (at least for me), is that a simple tribute to Pink Floyd band it is a blast for one part of the fâns. One thing is the band or  any of their members, other is musicians that do very well music from the other's.

In concluson, i never was a Pink Floyd fan (and probably i will not be in future), but i recognise the impact of the band in rock and others groups thar came by listening is music. Again, probably a reunion was better to all (band also, at least by the money..lol), but if the fans deam with that, Waters and Guilmore are decades away one from each other.

But is a very good band, in so many things, like music, production, inovations, etc. The height in rock, present and future, i belive is huge, but i think listening and like of a group is more personel than anything. Probably that is the mai reason i don't like Pink Floyd, wich is different from the respect that i have for this and other bands. Cheers

Aerosmith is still great (a concert review)

Aero - Vedercy baby is the name of the supposed last tour of Aerosmith, só after some talk at home, family give-me the ticket for father's day gift. And in the day i was there at Meo Arena in Lisbon, to a fine concert of hard rock (my favourite show room. 10 minutes to enter, 5 to go out. lots of parking near and 1 hour after the final song i'm at home), i only thinking "my family are so nice, love him all". Yap, Aerosmith still rock's, after 44 years, what a great band, since the voice to the bass, passing by the guitar and ending on the drums, all is a masterpiece. To bad if was the last time,  because is a band for at least more one or two decades, with albums and tour. But it seems that they are thinking in make more music and now don't want to stop anymore. Good.

The first part was made by Raveneye. Not a bad group but everyone was there to see Aerosmith so time was short and the people wanted to pass faster. And we never know that the aplause in the end are for the band or to what came next.

After the gest group, about 45 minutes waiting. About 22 pm everybody was impacient and the room srated to get full with people and noise. Soon the music stoped and all the lights were off. The central screen at the stage started to play a film from early days of Aerosmith to this final tour.

The music came with a huge aplause to the group, especially to Tyler and of couse Perry. Sound was perfect and with litlle adjust from the table better become. Room was on fire and old songs were mixed with more recent ones in a perfect mach.

Too bad that is not a film in conditions about Lisbon concert. So, this one is just fine because is a very real example from what was the band probably last aperance in Portugal. If so, was a great way to say goodbye, if not, just a "will be back" full of great moments, good music and a room full of fans, that in future will be there again.

10 Albums that change my live

Yes. music is very important. at least for me. This importance came from my father albums with bands like Supertramp, my uncle who listening Scorpions and Whitesnake (i have today, one or two albums from him) and my cousin with new have groups like Duran Duran. The initial work was done, because after, bands like Europe or Bon Jovi, were enought for a  14 year old boy to star listening hard rock (and then heavy metal music, thanks to my class mates from 10th year).  So the records in this list make the music love grow and became more strong, not only to righ about this staff but also to "eat" videos and investigade who sing and play the bass, drums and guitar. Now music is just no only for listening, but is a "way of life" (amadour, of course, because in Portugal profissionel of this area, much of the times, nead a miracle).
From Zepplin to Metallica, passing by Tull, Love/Hate, The Scream or Guns, all have a significant. If "Slave to the Grind" was probably the album that i listening most, Metallica was on of the best that i had. Power Station was my ticket from pop to rock and "Live after Death" the introduction to live video albums, made by this masterpiece. The Scream and AC/DC a total blast, and Apetite for Destruction a fresh view of ugly and raw hard rock, folow by Tull and Love/Hate, who give us the certain that the end of the 80's and the first years of the 90's were the golden age of rock.
Todd, make the presentation, because who make  this list "it's not you it´s me".

10 - Led Zepplin - Celebration

9 - Jetro Tull - Catfish Rising

8 - Love/Hate - Wasted in America

7 - Guns and Roses - Apettite for Destruction

6 - The Scream - Let it Scream

5 - Ac/Dc - Highway to Hell

4 - Iron Maiden - Live after Death

3 - Power Station - Power Station

2 - Skid Row - Slave to the Grind

1 - Metallica - Metallica (or Black Album)

Van Halen versus Ex-Members. Another bullshit war

For me Van Halen, still is a good band today. I like this formation, cause Dave is the right front man for the group, of this familly band were 3 of the 4 members are relatives, and were Anthony and Hagar were not bad but nothing compare what they do with Chickenfoot. Of course this is a band of sucess in is two versions ("Extreme" fase was te exception..lol), but the right staff is now, with other side exelent projects. A reunion, with two vocals, original base player and the best of diferent times is interesting but not a blast. Again, a band is a business and since the final 70's to now there are to much conflits about image, music, write and the royalties money. Change again, is probably a step to much more confusion, and if in Wall Of Fame only one part of the group was present, i only see in future things beeing worse. Leave them as it is, please.

Dave Lee Roth, the Van Hallen Brothers and Anthony were the best formation of the band. With Hagar or today with W. Van Hallen they were also good, with the only exception in Gary Cherone periode, were a great voice and musician from Extreme,  was not a good choise by the halen brothers to is band. But the best group period was the first, with sucess music like "Hot for the Teacher" or "Panama", and the Sammy time was also a sucess and interesting but not so good in music and tours.

Hagar and Roth have also excelent performance in solo or with other bands like Chickenfoot or The Circle. Dave albuns in the 80's and the beggining of the 90's only being possible to be play live by the group in time, were Billy Shean and Steve Vai were also the main atractions, because of their end of Van Halen participation. About Van Halen today, silence. The band members doesn't say what are thinking, if a tour or a new album, a reunion with Hagar and Anthony or any other stuff.

Last Van Halen album was nice but not great, and some live performance were not so good. I don't know if the problem is age, to much live performance or lack of "mojo" with separete hotel rooms and "air dressers". but again i don't care, because for me the band's can  make a tour of 6 years with a concert by moth and one album in a decade. Normal, with age, conflits, money and contrats, but positive is that they are active, with a medium quality work.

I don't know if it is more difficult the lack of response about the band future or the constant rumor about a reunion with this and that participation, with one or two vocals and bass player's, etc, etc.  For me is a new album, a tour with the actual band, and Anthony with Sammy. continue the good work in The Circle and Chickenfoot. And Hagar again in Van Halen? why not, but with an album or a tour, were the place for Dave was in another tour with is fine solo albuns and bands, for exemple 1988 "Skyscraper" or 1991 "A Little aint Enough".

We are talking about a band make by a family, with lot's of sucess and were money, music and lyric rights are very complex, with three diferent front man's, two bass players and a ego war between almost everybody. True that all band members don't need to get along, but the last return of Hagar was not make with a blasted album, and the verbal fight after, was like the one make by Dave and Eddie, and that last amost 20 years.

Much better the Dave Lee Roth return in the band with a good record and a cool tour. And i don´t see many diferences in the bass and drum section, but the fan's are since first Roth depatured, in a "war" with Hagar fan's, and now also Anthony admires, about who is better and what is the best time, albums and live performance from since the 70's first gigs, and of course sucess with hits like "Jump" or "Panama". The "word war" between then and now members only make things worse, and media do the rest.

Like all the profissional bands, credits, rights, royalties and money, are the bigger problems, with members and specially old ones. And much more of the disputes came from legal and intelectual problems in music, image and suveniers that the group made. Again there's also the edictors, distribution and financial or management group with lots of lawers in the midle. But the fans, ignore all this facts and go with the personal view of one or another side.

So, in a ultra famous band like this, problems aren't only personel, with all the crapp associated, and as i said, i don't know what contrats are sign,  with the actual band, past members and Dave or Sammy in their returned to Van Halen. Song rights, lyrical, past and future albuns, credits, etc, all is subjet to lawyers and contrat signatures, for regulation of past, present and future material maybe is or not, covered (most of times are, with also financial statement in each case).

Complicated? yes, a lot! And when there's a war between members, or with the group label company, etc, most of times are business stuff, not only personal, and i said "i don't know the agreement with label, members or publiciter, so i have no site. For words and attitudes, with rock stars? Man, from egos to bullshit, everything is on the role (of course there's exeptions), and control of name or actions in court for this an that, are the order of the day. At least, with Van Halen aren't that kind of shif (as far as i know).

Back to Van Halen reality, and what for me the main problem is: Besides egos, i think there´s a name registations and financial percentage, diferent from van halen brothers to the rest of the group. They were the beggining of the band, so probably the name and part of legacy are there property. What Hagar and Dave made to chance that? I don't know. Maybe yes or no, or the problems are at least one of the options. Again Sammy and Anthony in Van Halen, will certain altered that.

Not a problem for me, but maybe for the band or his past and actual members would be, again. Could be a blast future tour but also another crapp war. with no chance even to be in the same room (like in The Rock All of Fame), what is bad to the music. A blast will be a Chickenfoot / Van Halen tour or at least a The Circle / Dave Lee Roth, not half Sammy/Roth in the Van Halen stage. And there´s also the Anthony /Wolfgang thing, what maybe also a problem because the second his family. Not atractive another Sammy / Halen reunion, cause his better right now. Cheers.

Hard Rock...It is all about

Hard Rock is the main music of this backyard. Good and bad ass guitars with great voices, big drums and a screaming bass, are the reason for the existance of this crazy room. Music to get you high, happy, whit a smile on our face, because live is hard enough for sadness. Cheers.

Great version by Poison. And they are again on the road for a birthday tour, with all in good helth i hope. Perhaps an album will folow, or a DVD, a live record and who knows a special aniversary ediction was nice ...

Santa Cruz is that kind of band that have this youth vision by the public of five school sleeves in a garage, to play the guitar, drum or bass, with some girls in a short dress to clap tehm all. Again, it is  a diferent reality because they are very good in what they do. See the video...

The concept of Dead Daises from a "roll band" to a more specific formation was an act of fine concept for a group who is in a grow up process since the original album. A good result was that came from first part in Kiss tour, with  the Daises being choose again and again, to act with the big boys.   Great band and with a shine future to came...

Stone Sour is another concept of some of the people famous by Slipknot. Again with great sucess, and always on the move, with lovely original music and a cool version album to magnificent not be listening. The front man is one of the best in actual hard rock and metal world.

Australia is not only Ac/Dc, with this four ones being another masterpiece from the aussies. And if Brian J. don't return for the "Australia Big Band", this man on the front it may be the right one to replace him. To bad for Airborne,,,

Saliva is a great band, but only a part of the world know is music, like WWF fans. I have most of the albuns and i'm a regular listening of their power hard rock. A group with "mojo", fast cars and lovely women. More for what?

Buckcherry and Pudle of Mudd are old residents of this blog, now in a diferent way: two slow balads. one original and the other a great cover from the Stones. Again we see, that this rockers are a blast in what they do. Rock on!

Tribute band? No thanks.

I respect but i don't like tribute bands. Even a cover band i think that should have their own music, and play five or six of them in the bar or stage were they act, between the music of other groups, make for me some sense. But "clone bands" from the origianl ones, were music, dress made, air and also the music are the same (some bad, but sometimes even better than the original..lol), but it is not for me. Yes there are fine musicians, and a guy have to own some money, the industry is difficult and tribute bands is one way of doing all this struff,  but there are others and have two jobs (music and another ocupation for pay the bills), is valid to. And is this last one that i prefer.

Ok, let's star with Van Halen. In my opinion Eddie Van Halen is one of a kind what is a  problem to make a tribute band about VH (only to learn Eddie solos the guy must be very, very, good). Then, as front man, two great voices, with Hagar and Roth (the Extreme man was last only one album...), and of course with only original musics like "Jump" or "Hot  for the Teacher". It is impossible to make this magic out from VH, no mater the exelency of the tribute band.

Led Zepplin? A Guitar god named Page, Plant with is voice on the front, John Paul Jones, one of the best bass players in the world, and there's Boham (father is dead, but theres´s the son in bands like Carlifonia Breed or BC with the Voice and Bonamassa). Nop, i think good versions of the Zepplin music like the one made by Hart (make all the band cry), is the right way to this group aproach, not a tribute band (even an approved one).

Gn'R have one interesting tribute band that uses one of the ancient name of the group (Hollywood Roses, with Tracii Guns, that after that founded L.A. Guns ). But thats all, because air, the dress way and all the acessories are like the band uses to have in the 80's. Why's that? Probably for the public, sometimes in the way music goes make them forget that is not the real Guns and Roses in the stage. Besides, the 80's group doesn't not exist today, since Adler and Izzy are not with the rest ou the band in this 2017 Tour. Again, i don't like it.

About Metallica, there's in the band one of the most drummers in the world named Lars Ulrich, and with Cliff Burtton and Trujillo, great bass players (Trujillo son with 12 years is playing with KORN, so is a familly thing...lol).  His hard to play like this ones, besides Kirk his one expert in some types of peddals and James have a unique voice. So, again there's a band with such an original music and  that dress all black, so only this last item is easy. The other is very, very hard.

And a AC/DC tribute band? Who made Angus? And Brian? But there's a funny thing, when Johnson had their hearing problems the vocals from an official tribute band was tested (the man is good), but the band chose Axl Rose (the man is better then the other from tribute band, patience...). Motley Crue? No way (the music, knoledge and personality of each member are unique to make iqual)!
I don't see tribute bands as stupid or waste of time, but for me are not a choice. I use my money was i want and i prefer to go to a bar were i see what is the original music the band is playing or see ina  a big stage one group, national or internacional that i like. Is a personal thing, and i prefer the other way, with respect to all, who play and see, Easy and without stress, Cheers.

Gary Moore. A rocker that make the best Blues

One of the British great rockers was Gary Moore. His work with Lynot, Lizzy, Scars and solo was unique an with a blast in music and composition history. But for me, Moore was the "Blues Man", with a unique type of "blues rock" that make one generation and gives to the type a fresh reload with such power albums. The Blues comunity said it that he was great, and i have the same opinion. Today, Gary Moore it means Blues.

Love the Gary Moore blues. For me best of the best in this blues rock version and a sound that it is very original. In fact i'm a huge fan of "Blue's Moore" and not a particular one of the hard rock era, alone or with another great rockers. No doubt that Mr. Moore was a great guitar player, with great solos and a wonderfull technique in what music he play, but in the blues, wow!

His death was a shock because i have always the faith that the musician return to his blues, since after two albums, some compilations and live performances, he return to hard rock . But the man born for the blues. With a suit and a Les Paul guitar, he was a brand for a new rock blues with a powerful distorction guitar that made the late 80's and strated the 90's.

I think when he left the hard rock shock the old fans, but we made new ones with is hown type of blues and probably keep some of old ones with the power of his blues rock. Again was a shock when he left the blues and made a more light rock, alone and then with SCARS. The quality of the rock and hard rock music was good but not a mach with the exelency of his self made blues.

The prove was the recon of is music by great blues musicians like BB King or Albert Collins, wich made Moore an important performer, autor and guitar player in two different roles, and a not easy ones. So, this all talk is just to say that i love Gary Moore blues. I said it. I hope you undestaind. I wish we was alive and not to play only the blues but to make new ones, in a worl that is not the same without this great music. To bad with so many crapp people still alive and that only make shit, that this guitar god died. Life unjust, for assurance.

A great drummer call Rick Allen

Rick Allen "good of thunder" nickname to the fans (and also his band), is an example in the music world for is accident and the fact that he never give up from being a drummer. Was a violent car accident were Nick lost is left arm, what for a drummer is a big problem, but he got with a drums company, developed  a electronic system were is left leg made the job of the lost arm, using two more pedals. Since that time is still the professional drummer of one of top bands in the world, call Def Leppard. If is work is impressive, after te accident Rick participate in concerts like unpluged with a normal drum, were he play only with one arm, what is a blast and proves a great drummer he his. More important, is condition never was an excuse for to give up from his work and the band.

Since the first album of Def Leppard that Rick Allen is the Drumer, and if the first two discs were weak in sales, the third "Phyromania", reveled the sucess of the group in Europe, but also in the important market of USA. But a tragedy it happened when the drummer had an ugly trafic acident, and lost his left arm. For a musician was almoust the end, but not for Rick,  that when we recovered watched a test for another drummer to Def Leppard, had the idea with his drum mark "Pearl" to make a special drum with four pedals insted the usual two. So the legs substitute the left arm in his kit, what in teory was possible, but in practise, with one of the more famous band, in four example a arena? But, Rick was good and the group wanted to try.

So, how would will be? In the first concert a substitute drummer was ready for what could happen, and he stay for some shows, but was clear that was no nead, beacause the drums and the drummer work fine. Like a life buoy for the kids, to have a second drummer was a secure for everybody, but quickly came  the day that all understood that was no need. Concert after concert, the music had a more electronic sound in the percurssion, but was the only change to old albuns sound. In this new staff with "hysteria", the record process was made with this new kit so live it is exacly like the one was recording. Besides, this "new sound" gives a diferent aproach to hard rock, making Def Leppard one of the most unique bands in the hard rock scene.

But soon another tragedy heapen in the band universe. Steve Clark was found dead in house by is girlfriend and again the group had a dark period to cross. Def Leppard is in fact considered in rock world like a band with no luck, since again ins this decade, Vivian Campbel (who substitude Clark), had cancer and still figh with the damn desease. The band still rocks, with a tour in the next summer, with Poison, in USA, and never stop much time with the members problems, doing a rotine album/tour with some paralele projects from the diferent staff but Rick prefers is fundation call The Raven Drum (only make two shows with Mark Mason Project and a colaboration in one cd with Krishna Das).

Remains one of the few disable musiciens in the industry and he his a professional drummer in a band with world sucess. Not always easy, with mariage problems im past and alcool dependence that ended in the first years of this century, and that the trauma associate to is violent accident have a considerable impact in Rick life.  Again, he manage is "ghosts" like was possible to him, with of course problems in the way, but still is a person with a future doing what he likes. And that is the most important in this days. Again, bravo Rick for never give up and still be the "God of Thunder", and a example to the world. Keep going Allen.

Hinder is... with Winkler

Hinder is an american band from Oklahoma born in 2001 and that had some sucess with music like "get stoned", "lips of an angel", "use me" and "how long", but 2013 see vocals and co-funder Austin Winkler leave in the middle of a tour. Problems with alcool and subtances take him to reehab and was vocals from"Saving Abel" who made the rest of the shows. Since that the band and Austin John launch separate albums, and they are not good. So, Hinder is it Winkler. Period.

Songs like "How Long", "Use Me", "Lips of an Angel" and "Get Stoned" are so much diferent from the last material, were "I Need Another Drink" is the better. There's a lack of power, mojo, endurance and so on and on, betwen new and old Hinder, what is a problem for the old fans, and i think that they will not make much new ones, in the way things are.

So, the best option as a fan of old Hinder is get Winkler back again. The actual vocals is a co-manager of the record company wich also the drummer is owner, what it means (that plus is a long term colaborator in lyrics and music for the band), we will have a great job near the group, is friends and partners.

Problems between Winkler and the rest of the band? Well, separate dress room and hotel may resolve part of the problems. I remember White Zombie in the final tournee had two tour bus, one for Rob and the other for the rest of the band, so why not if things are soo bad in Hinder? Work like Guns and Roses in "Use or Illusion I and 2", by phone and in separate time at the studio. At least we will have the music like in past. Now we have a peacefull band with crap songs and we don't like it. Cheers.
